Colonsay Holiday House
Colonsay Holiday House
Guest reviews for Highfield House, a holiday home on the Isle of Colonsay, Inner Hebrides, Scotland
We stayed over New year 10 adults and a 8 month old baby.. The house was very beautiful and good value for money. It was really clean and very well set out for a holiday let - lots of bathrooms and good laundry and kitchen facilities. Everything seemed new and fresh and it was a pleasure to be there.
Owners were highly efficient beforehand with communication and were more than happy to accommodate our requests for a travel cot, stair gate and highchair to be supplied. Lots of books and games around which was a lovely touch - as well as the ipod dock and the wi-fi and the piano! Really well thought through.
Island itself is beautiful. Weather in December as you would expect was wet and windy. Most of the group still ventured outside and had a great time. Mother and baby stayed inside a lot but the house was so lovely to relax in that we didn't mind staying in especially as lots of jigsaws were provided! If we came back again with older children then we would come in the summer.
Highfield is a modern, well designed and well insulated house that offers all the facilities you require for a group of up to thirteen people.
Ten friends and I had a fantastic week staying in Highfield over the new year. Colonsay is an undeservedly little known rugged island in the Southern Hebrides that is very picturesque and ideal for those who enjoy walking.
To stay at Highfield you certainly need a car or bike as it is about three miles from the shop, post office, hotel and ferry port.
We enjoyed our holiday as it was a total escape. The people on the island are very friendly and we enjoyed the view of the Atlantic from the living area on the first floor.
All of us would certainly want to go back to Highfield again!
Colonsay and Highfield were both an unforgettable experience. The island is simply stunning with a great pace of life - you felt yourself relaxing the moment you stepped off the ferry. And the property is great - it's finished to a very high standard and is really spacious. We were 4 adults and 6 kids and had plenty of space.
Overall a great holiday and one I would recommend to anyone. We'll definitely be going back!
Having stayed on Colonsay many times in various locations, our stay at Highfield was a real highlight. The owners have thought of everything to make their guests welcome. The made up beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, access to wifi and sky TV very welcome and jigsaws were well used.
Although we experienced good weather, the house was very cosy and draft free. The light coming through the many windows was fantastic and very relaxing.
The fixtures and fittings were all of a very high standard which made us feel very valued as guests.
We would like to keep this wonderful house our little secret but feel it is only fair to share such a great find. We defy anyone not to feel refreshed after a stay at Highfield.
...but with Colonsay this time. - our very first visit we are ashamed to say. What a delightful s l o w - d o w n island!. We were fortunate to be resident at Highfield which is possibly the most modern and extremely-well equipped, comfortable property on the island, catering easily for all our 3-generation tribe (11 plus baby I think round the table for dinner?). Bath/shower rooms everywhere, lovely huge lounge/dining/kitchen area on the upper floor with windows, balconies & long views at each end. The moveable feast of 'cooks-for-night ' were never excluded from the party at wine time. the ground-floor granny-flat was terrific for the baby-owners with its slight separation, privacy and direct access to the garden.
Great house. Will go back.
Highfield is a beautifully appointed holiday home on the fantastic island of Colonsay. Large enough to sleep up to 13 people, the house has 6 spacious bedrooms and is set up for family groups in mind.
The sea views, garden and large amount of space helped us switch off and relax.
The house simply works, there is plenty of space for everyone, all mod cons are available and the location is simply stunning. Nick and Lynne made the entire booking process very straightforward and they shared many good insider tips that just helped our holiday go even more smoothly, a great job.
We had a wonderful time from the adventure of getting there to relaxing in the house and exploring the island generally, thank you!
We got away from it all on wonderful Colonsay (again) staying for our first time at Highfield, a modern well laid out & maintained house with a well equipped kitchen, comfortable seating, plentiful en-suites and hot water, good beds & linen.
All in all we had a very relaxing week. Would I go again? Yes definitely! In fact we loved it so much we've aleady booked to go again next year! Highly recommended. Great for small or large groups. We were two families ie four adults & five children.Accomodation worked very well.
This was not our first trip to Colonsay, having spent several summer weeks there over past 10 years, however this was certainly the most supremely comfortable house we have stayed in to date. Light and bright it has been cleverly arranged to accommodate smaller or larger groups and all the bedrooms are of the same quality and standard, with comfortable beds and excellent bathrooms and showers. Good towels and linen.
The upside-down nature of the house is terrific as you get a lovely open plan feel when in both the kitchen/dining/sitting areas. The kitchen is very well equipped and is a treat to work in. There is a good laundry downstairs. The addition of a tv room for those that want to is just one of the thoughtful additions, and there is another tv (both big flat screens) in the sitting room upstairs. Everyone can be happy! Colonsay is a treat in itself with outstanding walks, beaches and away-from-it-all nature. It is an added bonus to have accommodation with all-mod-cons, and space for everyone to spread out.
We spend Easter week in North West Scotland every year and have stayed in some wonderful places but Highfield ranks as one of the best, if not the best, so far. Superb house in an excellent location, a lovely island, and genuinely friendly and helpful local people.
The cottage was perfect, with beautiful views, and a really spacious and homely feel. All the rooms were fitted out to a high standard and the upside down design meant that the living room and kitchen were light and airy and took full advantage of the elevated location.
Our requirements are simple. Good walking, good cycling and nice beaches are all we ask, and Colonsay, even though it's a small island, was superb on all counts. We were able to cover the whole island on bike or foot and so never had to touch the cars all week. Most other visitors seemed to have the same idea which meant that the roads were relatively free of cars.
Highlights were the paddle across the Strand to Oronsay, Kiloran bay, Carnan Eoin and an off road cycle to Balnahard Bay which was well worth the effort. The pub quiz at the Hotel on Thursday night is a fun evening and a great excuse to test the output of the Colonsay Brewery.
Highfield is a fantastic place for a 'getting away from it all' holiday.
Hoping we can make a return visit soon!
