Most people reach Colonsay by a wonderful 

2.5 hour ferry journey from the town of Oban 

on the mainland of Scotland. The dramatic sea 

route takes you past many islands including 

Mull, Seil and Jura and once on the ferry your 

holiday really starts as you leave the mainland behind. The island can also be reached from a second ferry port called Kennacraig and by air 

and fast boat from near Oban. Bear in mind it 

is essential to bring a car with you, as although 

the total road mileage is quite small there is no regular public transport available on Colonsay.
